Fixed Grilles : Retractable Grilles

Fixed Grilles

Materials

The term 'fixed grille' usually refers to a rigid grille made of wrought iron or steel and fixed to the outside or the inside of the building over a window or a similar opening. This is the most basic type of barrier security. It is effective, simple and economic.

We can supply a standard burglar bar unit in various weights, ranging from light, to heavy duty, dependent on site requirements. Grilles are normally supplied in a powder coat finish but colours are generally restricted to either black or white.

Design

We are very happy to work with a customer to produce grilles with designs and finishes most suited to his requirements.

While a very basic grille may be suitable for some sites, others may require something a little more ornamental in design and colour.

Whatever the customer is seeking, we will do our best to offer something that is acceptable.

On the majority of sites, 'fixed' grilles are permanently fixed into place and cannot be removed but on certain sites this may not be ideal.

In cases where a permanently fixed grille can cause a problem it is often possible to get around this by manufacturing grilles that have a 'lift-off' facility or can be opened by use of hinges and secured by a lock.

External Door Grille

This is a good example of a 'fixed' grille modification. This type of grille is mostly used in the domestic market though there are also some commercial applications.

Fitted with a 5 lever lock, it is installed on the outside of an external door so that that the owner of a house can examine unexpected callers before allowing them to enter the home.

In commercial premises this product is often installed internally, behind a fire door. An advantage of this product is that it needs no headroom, only a space in which to swing.

Retractable Grilles

General

The very popular Excalibur range of retractable grilles was developed in the United Kingdom and is manufactured here, to the highest standards, for the British commercial and domestic markets.

There are three grilles in this range, the Excalibur, the Balmoral and the Centurian, each designed to serve a specific purpose. Thousands of these grilles are installed every year to protect public and private premises.

All three grilles have 'hinge-up track' or 'removable-track' facilities as options. The Excalibur and Balmoral grilles may be fitted with 'hinge aside' option if the width of the grille does not exceed 1200mm.

Protecting the Office

Because almost every office is guaranteed to contain one or more computer, they are often the target of criminals. Excalibur grilles are frequently chosen to give offices protection from their attentions. An effective, visible deterrent, that is also aesthetically attractive.

Because the grilles may be retracted, windows can still be cleaned and staff need not feel imprisoned. These grilles are a very popular answer to the problem of security in an office environment.

Protecting the Shop

Large windows on shops or stores leave the premises vulnerable to attack by criminals. In many towns and cities the local authorities will not permit the installation of external shutters and internal shutters may be impractical.

The solution in such a case could well be an internally mounted Excalibur retractable grille. When closed, they permit good visibility into the shop while being a visible deterrent against attempted theft. When open, the grille slides easily and discreetly to the side and often is completely invisible from outside the shop. Excalibur grilles are frequently used in this way.

Protecting the Home

More and more people are realising how advisable it is install some physical security to back up electronic alarms. Because they are discreet, because they are not ugly, because they are easy to operate, Excalibur retractable grilles are becoming more frequently the discerning homeowners choice for strengthening vulnerable patio door and window areas of the home.
